Hook: When were you tricked into thinking something fake was genuine?

Book: This fig tree was a symbol of the nation of Israel, which enjoyed the appearance of religion but lacked the evidence of genuine spiritual fruit. By rejecting Jesus they would be rejected themselves and judged by God. A fraudulent heart can easily hide behind pious words or religious activity. Real spirituality comes by believing Jesus and obeying His words. Who is real or fake is obvious to the One who counts.
